Nutrition/Physical Activity

The Network for a Healthy California-Gold Country Region provides coordination and support for community based nutrition and physical activity education and program development to achieve the goals of the California Nutrition Network in Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Mono, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Solano, Stanislaus, Sutter, Tuolumne, Yolo, and Yuba counties.

As the lead agency for the Network for a Healthy California-Gold Country Region, the Health Education Council provides coordination of trainings, technical assistance and nutrition and physical activity education campaigns in the region.


Network for a Healthy California-Gold County Region

Network for a Healthy California-African American Campaign
African American Campaign's mission is to encourage the improvement of health by empowering the African American community through education and advocacy that promotes the benefits of healthy eating and physical activity.


Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Collaborative
The collaborate works toward having an informed population that eats healthy foods and is physically active within communities that support healthy lifestyles. Activities include promoting and integrating education, coordination, and support of nutrition, physical activity, and access to healthy foods throughout the Gold Country Region. We also advocate for and promote policy changes that support nutrition, physical activity, and access to healthy foods at schools, workplaces, events, and throughout the community.

Network for a Healthy California-Power Play! Campaign
The Children's, Power Play! Campaign helps communities bring the message of eating the recommended number of servings of fruits and vegetables and physical activity to low-income 9 to 11 year old children in six community channels; school classrooms, and cafeterias; community youth organizations, including after school and summer programs; farmers' market, supermarket, restaurant promotions; and media.

Network for a Healthy California-Latino Campaign
Latino Campaign's mission is to empower low-income Latino adults and their families to consume 5 to 9 servings of fruit and vegetables and engage in at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day. The Campaign also works with communities throughout California to create environments where these behaviors are socially supported and accessible.

Worksite Campaign
The Network for a Healthy California�Worksite Campaign mission is to help employers develop and implement a culture and environment at their workplaces that support healthy eating and physical activity among lower-income workers.  The campaign works with employers throughout California to: improve access to healthy foods and physical activity at workplaces; foster supportive work environments that encourage healthy lifestyle choices; and establish public policies that bolster health promotion efforts at worksites.


California Project LEAN (Leaders Encouraging Activity and Nutrition)
HEC works with the California School Boards Association (CSBA) to promote healthy school environments through board policy. This project provides resources and trainings to school boards and their staff on how to develop, implement, and monitor school wellness policies. CSBA and HEC collaborates with California Project LEAN, California Department of Education, and the Dairy Council of California to form the Action for Healthy Kids � California State Team, which works to address school wellness issues throughout the state.
