- To improve the economic health of residents in the Del Paso Heights/Strawberry Manor area.
2008 Strategies:
- To advocate for and prepare land for growing produce for the Del Paso Heights Community Farmers market
- To expand nutrition education at Grant Union High School and in the Community.
- To increase market opportunities for local growers.
Current Projects:
The FEED Coalition is currently supporting 3 projects in the Del Paso Heights neighborhood:
The Del Paso Heights Community Farmers' Market and Community Farms
The Farmers Market is one of it's kind, supported almost entirely by farmers who live and grow in the neighborhood. A small but expanding market, it provides much needed access to healthy, affordable, fresh produce from late Spring through mid Fall.
Grant High School's Environmental Organization
The FEED Coalition supports this great program by helping to bring new resources and ideas to the program including expanded garden based nutrition education. Most exciting is the development of a new school/community cooking classroom on the Grant Union High School campus. The classroom will be adjacent to the gardens and will provide an opportunity for students and adults to learn about nutrition through hands on cooking activities with produce strait from the garden. To help make the cooking classroom a reality, donate now.
The Stone Soup Community Gardens
The gardens are wonderful places to grow food and friendships. Our network of 3 (soon to be 4) community gardens provide an opportunity for families to grow fresh, culturally appropriate produce, saving them thousands of dollars a year.
