At the August 31, 2009 meeting of the Break Free Alliance Coordinating Council, held in Sacramento, CA, members unanimously elected Robert H. Anderson to Chair the Alliance over the next two years. Mr. Anderson is the Deputy Director of the Prevention Research Center at West Virginia University.
"Robert Anderson has volunteered with the Alliance since its inception in 2001, leading our work to reduce tobacco related health disparities among the incarcerated, homeless, and other vulnerable populations. His selection as the new Chair underscores his strong leadership capabilities and commitment to this issue," stated Janet Porter, Program Director.

The Coordinating Council consists of national organizations, states and regional agencies that oversee and drive the development and implementation of the Alliance's national initiatives.
As Chair, Mr. Anderson will direct the work of the Alliance through 2011, focusing on maintaining and strengthening the network, expanding research, and exploring opportunities for global partnerships. His first order of business will be to preside over the Break Free Alliance Expert Panel to Address Tobacco Use Among the Homeless, to be held October 21, 2009 in Washington, DC.
